PM`s special representative for relations with Russia, Zurab Abashidze has stated that the Government of Georgia has started working on getting a direct dialogue with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Abashidze made this statement in an interview to the agency "RIA Novosti" before leaving for Brussels.
Abashidze stated that official Tbilisi is discussing new forms of dialogue with the Abkhazians and Ossetians and will be happy if Moscow provides support in the establishment of direct contacts.
"If direct negotiations start, we are ready to put aside issues connected with status."
Abashidze continued to speak on the importance of dialogue between Russia and Georgia, stressing that Russia has released three Georgian citizens accused of spying. He expressed hope that Moscow will take similar steps in respect to other Georgian nationals in Russian custody.
Abashidze also touched upon the Association Agreement with the EU noting that the agreement won`t have a negative impact on relations with Russia.
