Georgia demands 70,320,000 EUR from the government of Russia as compensation for moral damages.
"The European Court of Human Rights said Russia violated rights of 4 634 Georgians when it expelled them from the country in the autumn of 2006. The Court also indicated that 2 380 Georgians were illegally arrested in Russia and subsequently expelled with the violation of articles 3 and 5 (1), (4) of the European Convention; three out of the detainees died in custody. The Court also found that the victims of the abovementioned violations did not have access to effective legal defense means,"- is stated in a statement released by the Justice Ministry.
